20 Dec 1995"Winners: Jackie Read and Brent Foster"

  • Run: 3 kilometre

Competitors in Race#3 of the Stroke & Stride Series had to contend with a strong easterly wind which made life interesting for the big 1000 metre swim and plain hard work for the return journey of the 3 km run.

Jackie Read did well during the swim to get a break on the other ace swimmers and emerged from the water with a 35 second lead over Stacey Bodger, Louise Soper and Megan Dalton.  Read had recorded a seventh and a fifth placed finish at Race #1 and #2 of the Series.  At Race #3 she matched her great swim leg with an equally determined run and went on to win her first Stroke & Stride.  Dalton was the only woman to stay in contact, finishing a strong second.  Third place went to Suzanne Clark, playing catch up on the run again, ahead of Bodger who held out Helen King for fourth.

Swimming’s fab four: Brent Foster, Adam Jackson, John Munro and Tim Bowen opened up a 45 second lead over the remainder of the Men’s field during the 1000 metre swim leg.  First to hit the beach was Series leader Foster and that’s all she wrote for the Men’s race as he ran away for another resounding victory.  Young Nathan Richmond was out of the water in fifth spot and was the only athlete to make an impression on our  leading four as he ran through for second.  Munro out ran Surf Life Saving star Jackson for third while Bowen held onto fifih place.
